Cookie Crawl and Business Showcase is a free event to help businesses in the community at the Whitehead Memorial Museum at 6:30 p.m. today.

The Cookie Crawl is presented by the Del Rio Downtown Association (DRDA) to help businesses during the holiday season and to allow groups and organizations to win prizes. The DRDA allows up to 18 groups or businesses to sign up, and members of the DRDA will be handing out coffee and hot chocolate.

Councilwoman Alexandra Falcon Calderon, founder of the DRDA, said this will be the organization’s sixth annual Cookie Crawl. She said the event is called a “crawl” so people can take their time and visit each booth.

“We want people who attend to know the businesses that are set up and go to one booth at a time; crawling to every booth but walking of course,” Calderon said.

There is no fee for the businesses to participate, but each booth and group attending are required to provide free cookies to the people stopping by.

Even though it is called a “business showcase,” Calderon said the event is available for other organizations including churches and school groups.

Groups and organizations are also given five minutes to give a performance or presentation related to their business. Dance performances including the Queen City Belles and Del Rio High School Dance Company will be attending and performing during the event.

DRDA will also have a decoration contest based on the best-looking booth. DRDA will give out $50 for the winner of the contest.
