No one was injured in an explosion on the city’s north side early Sunday, city officials said.
The explosion shook windows and awakened sleeping residents just before 6 a.m. Sunday, and Del Rio Fire Department Chief David Harrison told the 830 Times five fire department units and 13 personnel were dispatched to the scene at 5:51 a.m. Sunday.
“The units and personnel were dispatched to a reported explosion and fire involving a tractor trailer at 132 Kings Way,” Harrison said in a statement texted to the 830 Times.
“Upon arrival, fire crews extinguished the fire and overhauled the trailer to extinguish any remaining burning materials,” Harrison added.
The trailer where the explosion and fire started was apparently parked behind a business warehouse off Kings Way.
Harrison said an investigation of the site by fire personnel determined “a propane cylinder like (those) used (to power some) forklifts was found ruptured near the fire.
The fire chief said he believed the ruptured propane tank “explains the explosion heard by area residents.”
“All fire units were back in service by 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning with no injuries or exposures reported,” Harrison said.
