A total of 2,763 Val Verde County voters cast ballots by personal appearance during the county’s early voting period, which ended Friday, an election official said.

Val Verde County Clerk Teresa Esther Chapoy told the 830 Times 2,763 voters cast their ballots in person over the county’s 11 days of early voting in the 2024 Democratic and Republican Party Primary Elections.

The 2,763 voters represent 0.095 percent – just under 10 percent – of the 29,028 persons registered to vote in the county.

Early voting in Val Verde County began on Feb. 20, and voters who did not cast early ballots will have one more chance to vote – on Election Day, Tuesday, March 5.

According to information on the Texas Secretary of State’s web site, of the 2,763 voters who cast in-person ballots during the early voting period, 1,613 voted in the Republican Party Primary Election, and 1,150 voted in the Democratic Party Primary Election.

The most early votes cast came on Friday, the final day of the early voting period, when 414 cast their ballots.

The next-busiest day was the first day of early voting, Feb. 20, when a total of 299 voters cast ballots.

A total of 250 voters cast ballots on Wednesday, Feb. 21; a total of 200 voted on Thursday, Feb. 22; and a total of 260 voted on Friday, Feb. 23.

A total of 235 voted on Saturday, Feb. 25, and a total of 134 voted on Sunday, Feb. 26.

The last week of early voting saw an uptick in the number of voters, with a total of 252 voting on Monday, Feb. 26; a total of 235 voting on Tuesday, Feb. 27; a total of 231 voting on Wednesday, Feb. 28; and a total of 253 voting on Thursday, Feb. 29.

Chapoy, in a text message to the 830 Times, said the 2,763 votes does not include the provisional ballots that were cast during the early voting period nor does the total include limited ballots cast by persons residing in Val Verde County but registered to vote elsewhere in Texas.

“The limited ballots allow for voters to vote in federal or statewide races but not in the local races,” Chapoy said.
