It’s going to be unchartered territory for the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce when it comes to pulling off this year’s Wild Game Dinner.
First, there’s no dinner, so the event is being called the Wild Game Gun Raffle. For precautionary reasons involving the COVID-19 pandemic, the chamber’s leadership chose to forego the traditional meal that typically featured a wide variety of game dishes and instead just hold a raffle of 35 guns.
That’s the second big change. In years past, more than 100 guns were raffled off to people who bought tickets for the event. Often, people would buy hundreds of tickets for a chance to win one of the guns available. This year, 35 guns will be raffled.
Funds collected from this event fund a variety of the chamber’s annual projects. It’s typically the biggest fundraiser of the year for the chamber.
The raffle will be held on the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce’s official Facebook page via live stream at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased at Del Rio Feed & Supply, Robert’s Jewelers, Rudy’s BBQ, Thompson Tires, Drive-In Liquor, Devil’s River Beer Barn, Five Points Market and the chamber offices.
According to Debbie Guerra, Del Rio Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Assistant, tickets have sold well, but this week the chamber is expecting a surge in purchases. She added tickets would be sold at the chamber offices Saturday.
