Del Rio’s chances for a share of the District 30-6A title faded into the cold Eagle Pass night thanks to the Eagles.
The Rams suffered their first shutout of the season, falling at Eagle Pass, 21-0 Thursday night. The loss prohibited the Rams from claiming at least a share of their first district championship since 2016.
The loss also dropped the Rams to the district’s third seed regardless of the outcome of this weekend’s Laredo United/Alexander and Laredo United South/LBJ games.
Del Rio will most likely face San Antonio Brennan in the first round of the playoffs next week. The particulars of the game, including where and when, have yet to be decided but should be finalized this weekend.

Defense was the calling card for both teams in the first half. Each team suffered a turnover on their first possessions with Del Rio turning it over on an interception but getting the ball back two plays later on an interception by Sergio Treviño.
The Rams offense was never able to get going. Leading rusher Aiden Huerta was held to negative-one yard rushing and Ricky Haynes turned two acrobatic catches into 40 yards but zero scores.
Aside from Haynes’ two catches, the only other Rams play to net more than 10 yards was a 26-yard catch and run from quarterback Victor Medina to wide receiver Marcus Leak.
Eagle Pass scored its first points on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Ruiz to Dakota Kypuros. That 7-0 advantage held until the second half when the Eagles scored twice, once on a six-yard run by Ruiz and again on a two-yard run by Lazaro Villareal with about minutes left to play in the game.
Del Rio’s defense had its moments. Andrew Garza and Jesus de Luna each had sacks in the game and the defense forced a pair of turnovers against the Eagles, but Del Rio just could not capitalize.
