NEWS — Rough Canyon crash leaves two dead

DEL RIO –The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at approximately 9:24 p.m., a gray 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV led DPS on a high-speed vehicle pursuit after the driver failed to pull over for a speeding violation on Recreational Road 2, north of Del Rio in Val Verde County.

The Mitsubishi continued to evade at an excessive speed approaching the Rough Canyon recreational area parking lot, failing to negotiate a curve, losing control, and rolling over. The driver fled from the vehicle. Two male passengers from Mexico were ejected from the vehicle. Troopers provided life-saving measures by performing CPR until paramedics arrived, but both were pronounced deceased due to head injuries. Three passengers from Mexico were transported to the Val Verde Hospital and one male passenger from Mexico was transported to Brooke Medical Center Hospital in San Antonio. One of the males later died at the hospital.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, just after 5 a.m., Troopers located the driver, identified as Asha Kisindja, 21, from Houston TX. Kisindja was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio and is in the custody of federal authorities. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will pursue federal charges. DPS Troopers are currently investigating this fatal crash. The identities of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified.
