Back-to-back up-tempo games caught up with the Del Rio Rams basketball team in its home debut Saturday.
After a grueling track meet Friday night that saw the Rams beat San Antonio Southwest Legacy, 90-83, the Rams couldn’t keep up the pace against a game squad from Pleasanton and dropped their first game at home this season, 89-67.
Del Rio falls to 2-4 on the season with the loss.
The Rams trailed by just one point after the first quarter, 17-16, but a barrage of 3-pointers from Pleasanton helped open the deficit to double digits by halftime. Pleasanton hit nine shots from beyond the 3-point line in the second quarter and took a 49-24 lead into the break.
The Rams did outscore Pleasanton in the third quarter, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as Del Rio fell by 22 points.
For Del Rio, J.J. Cervantes continued his strong season, leading both teams with 29 points including 16 in the fourth quarter. Luis Arteaga finished with 19 points, Nicolas Rivera had 11 points, Eli Webster had six points, and Jose Hernandez rounded out the scoring with four points.
R.J. Marquez led Pleasanton with 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and Juan Lopez had 22 points.
The Rams return to action Tuesday at home against Uvalde at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sfdr-cisd.org/alternative-school/athletics through the “Purchase Tickets” link.
