Heat exhaustion or pre-existing medical issues may have been contributing factors in the death of a man found on Veterans Boulevard earlier today, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Shawn Hiram Mayers, 52.
Del Rio Police Department Chief Frank Ramirez issued the following release via text following a request from The 830 Times through the city’s public information department.
“At noon today, (DRPD) officers responded to a call in the 500 block of Veterans Boulevard. A concerned employee from a nearby business reported a man collapsed outside. Upon arrival, officers located the individual and immediately requested emergency medical services (EMS),” Ramirez wrote.
The chief added, “The criminal investigations division (CID) responded to the scene. Preliminary findings suggest no visible injuries indicating foul play. However, the cause of death is suspected to be heat exhaustion or underlying medical issues.
“An autopsy has been ordered,” Ramirez wrote.
