The Whitehead Memorial Museum is having Scan and Share Day on Saturday, July 20, where they will be collecting copies of old photos representing the history of Del Rio.
Citizens are invited to visit the museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and bring old photos of themselves, their families or the community and scenery of Del Rio from throughout the years.
Michael Diaz, director of the Whitehead Memorial Museum, said he wants people to bring historical photos of Del Rio so they can be scanned and preserved. The original photos will be given back to the owners, and the scanned photos will be stored in the museum’s Daughtrey Research Center for future generations to look through them.
Diaz said the museum is having this all-day event because of old photos they retrieved from the Warren Studio after it closed down. The Warren Studio closed during the spring of 2024, and the museum retrieved photos from the studio that were taken from the mid 1900s, early 1900s and late 1800s.
“If you have any photos or if you bought one of the photos from the Warren Studio, bring them to the museum and allow us to scan it and keep a copy of it in our archives, so it can be used by people for research,” Diaz said.
The Whitehead Museum’s archive room holds information about the museum’s history and items people have donated over the years. The archive room is free of charge for anyone doing research projects for articles, books or family history.
Diaz said this is the first time the museum is doing Scan and Share Day, and if the all-day event had a good turnout, he hopes that they can do it again on a monthly basis.
