NEWS — Court approves order and notice for November general election

Val Verde County Commissioners court has approved an order and notice for general election for the November 2024 General Election in Val Verde County.

Commissioners court approved the order and notice as part of a slate of five election-related items placed on the agenda of its July 31 meeting by County Clerk Teresa Esther Chapoy.

County Judge Lewis G. Owens Jr. announced the first item, “discussion and possible action on Order and Notice of General Election for the November 5, 2024 General Election.”

County Commissioner Pct. 3 Beau Nettleton made the motion to approve the order and notice, and County Commissioner Pct. 4 Gustavo “Gus” Flores gave the second.

The approved order and notice has been posted on the county clerk’s website, under the “Elections” menu item. (Follow this link, Elections | Val Verde County, TX (texas.gov) and they are about two-thirds down the page.)

The order notes that the following offices will be on the ballot: President of the United States, United States Senator, United States Representative, District 23; (Texas) Railroad Commissioner, Justice, (Texas) Supreme Court, Place 2, Place 4 and Place 6; Presiding Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals; Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 7 and Place 8; Member, (Texas) State Board of Education, District 1; (Texas) State Representative, District 74; Justice, 4th Court of Appeals District, Place 3, Place 4, Place 5 and Place 7; District Judge, 63rd Judicial District; (63rd Judicial) District Attorney, (Val Verde) County Attorney, (Val Verde County) Sheriff, (Val Verde) County Tax Assessor-Collector, (Val Verde) County Commissioner Precinct 1, (Val Verde) County Commissioner Precinct 3, (Val Verde County) Constable, Precinct 1; (Val Verde County) Constable, Precinct 2; (Val Verde County) Constable, Precinct 3; and (Val Verde County) Constable, Precinct 4.

The order also sets the dates, times and place for early voting by personal appearance in the Nov. 5 election.

All early voting by personal appearance will be conducted at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd.

Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Oct. 25; from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27; and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, through Friday, Nov. 1.

Applications for ballots by mail shall be mailed to: Teresa Esther Chapoy, Val Verde County Clerk; P.O. Box 1267- 400 Pecan St., 1st Floor; Del Rio, TX 78841-1267.

Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

Federal Post Card Applications (FPCAs) must be received no later than the close of business of Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

The “Notice of General Election,” also posted on the county clerk’s portion of the county’s website, informs the county’s registered voters that five polling locations in Val Verde County will be open for voters to cast their ballots on Election  Day – Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

The polls on Election Day will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Voters may cast ballots on Election Day in the following polling locations:

  • Joe Ramos Facility, 1105 W. De La Rosa St. – Precincts 10, 11, 12 and 13
  • Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd. – Precincts 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24
  • Northside Baptist Church, 1100 Amistad Blvd. – Precincts 30, 31 and 33
  • Comstock Community Center, 68 Langtry St., Comstock, Texas – Precincts 32, 42 and 43
  • St. Joseph Church Parish Hall, 510 Wernett St. – Precincts 40 and 41

The court unanimously approved the Order and Notice of General Election.

The court also unanimously approved the remaining election-related items on its agenda: appointment of early voting and election day judges and alternate judges, appointment of the early voting ballot board, appointment of a central counting station manager, judge, alternate judge and tabulation supervisor and appointment of Val Verde County Clerk deputies as needed for the election.
