With blistering hot temperatures hitting the region Wednesday and Thursday, the City of Del Rio is opening a community cooling center.
Weather.com predicts the temperatures could reach 111 degrees Wednesday and 110 degrees Thursday, while ‘only’ hitting 106 degrees Friday.
The center will open at the Transportation Depot at 100 W. Ogden from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
“With the potentially record-setting temperatures the next few days, we just wanted to make sure all of our citizens were able to stay cool,” said Al Arreola, Del Rio mayor.
According to Peter Ojeda, City of Del Rio communication manager, there are a couple of guidelines for the facility.
— Food and drink are allowed, alcohol is not.
— Dogs on a leash are allowed.
— Cats must be in a carrier.
Ojeda added that if anyone requires assistance such as from a caregiver, make sure they are with you “so that they may assist you during the time you are at the cooling center,” he said.
