Del Rio High’s girls’ basketball drama has come to a conclusion.

According to San Felipe Del Rio CISD Superintendent Dr. Carlos Rios, the school district has conducted an investigation into an alleged assault against Del Rio Queens head basketball coach Chris Jost by a parent following Del Rio’s win Dec. 8 at Luling and the matter has been resolved.

The alleged assault reportedly stemmed from a disagreement regarding playing time for one of the Queens players. That player’s parents confronted Jost after the Luling game, words were exchanged and Jost was shoved by one of the parents, according to an eyewitness at the game.

While the district had no further comment regarding the issue, 830 Times has confirmed that Jost was suspended from coaching Del Rio’s next game against Gonzales on Dec. 11. Assistant coach Marisa Soto oversaw coaching duties in his absence.

He returned to the sidelines for Del Rio’s game against Ft. Stockton on Dec. 12 and was on the sidelines for the Queens’ district-opening win against LBJ Tuesday night.

As for the parents who were allegedly involved, 830 Times has learned the parent accused of shoving Jost has been barred from Queens’ games for the remainder of the season while the other parent is not allowed to contact Jost without supervision.
