The city council appointed Councilman Randy Quiñones as ex-officio director of the Del Rio Main Street Program Board during Tuesday’s council meeting.
Appointment of an ex-officio director of the Main
Street Program Board was an item on the council’s agenda.
Councilwoman Carmen Gutierrez made the motion to nominate Quiñones as the ex-officio director, and Councilman J.P. Sanchez gave the second.
As mentioned in the agenda packet provided to the council by Assistant City Manager Manuel Chavez, the Del Rio Main Street Program preserves the historic downtown area through economic development strategies and community events.
Prior to the council meeting, the city council member position on the Main Street Program Board was vacant, and filling the position will help the board continue its mission of maintaining care for Del Rio’s downtown areas and its community, Chavez wrote.
Mayor Al Arreola thanked Quiñones for volunteering as the city council member to join the Main Street Program Board.
Arreola called for a vote, and the council unanimously approved Quiñones’ appointment before moving to the next agenda topic.
Quiñones spoke with The 830 Time following his appointment and expressed how excited he is to help the Main Street Program and the community.
“I am excited to try and help out or be a part of anything I can do with the city. It was the first time I was nominated for a committee, so I am going to do all I can to help out any way I am needed,” Quiñones said.
