On 12/12/2024 at approximately 4:33 p.m. a concerned citizen arrived at the Del Rio Police Department requesting a welfare check on a relative.
Police were dispatched to the relative’s address located at the 1100 block of Ave K where officers attempted to make contact but were unsuccessful. While police searched the exterior of the residence for an entry point, police saw what appeared to be blood on the living room floor via a small window.
Criminal Investigation Division was requested at the scene; due to the exigent circumstances, police made forced entry into the residence. Upon making entry police located a deceased male, laying on the floor with multiple injuries to the face and body. The male was identified as a 72-yr. old Del Rio resident.
A Justice of the Peace was contacted to conduct the mandatory inquest. The scene was processed and lastly, the body was removed from the scene, pending an autopsy examination.
This is an open investigation, and no further information is available at the time.

The Del Rio Police Department is investigating a possible homicide in the 1100 block of Avenue K.
The entire block has been cordoned off. Justice of the Peace Pat Cole arrived on the scene at about 7:30 p.m.
