City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On February 10th, 2025 at 7:20 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the intersection of Veterans Blvd. and Cantu Rd. regarding a hit and run call. Del Rio Emergency Communications Division informed the responding officers; two vehicles were struck, and a third vehicle left the scene traveling
westbound towards Cantu Rd.
The suspect’s vehicle was described as a black, Dodge truck. Police arrived in the area and observed a vehicle matching the suspect’s description with front end damage consistent with the crash.
The responding officer conducted a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle, and contact was made with the driver who had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. The driver displayed additional signs of intoxication and was asked to exit his vehicle.
The vehicle was inventoried, and an open alcoholic beverage was located in the center console with fresh spilled contents. A search of the driver revealed a plastic baggie containing white powdery substance. The substance was field tested yielding positive results for cocaine.
The driver identified as Juan Carlos Sanchez; 49 yrs. of age was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B<1G, Driving While Intoxicated/Open Alcohol Container, and Accident Involving Damages to Vehicle>=$200.
Sanchez was transported to the police station for booking, he was later released to GEO Correctional Facility pending Magistration process.
