The Del Rio Rotary Club and the Border Town Baggers are putting on their first joint cornhole tournament Saturday with a grand prize of $4,500.
“The cornhole tournament came about because the Border Town Baggers worked with us hoping to bring in teams from throughout the region,” Abram Rodriguez, Rotary Club president said. “We thought this was a great way to get the public involved.”
The tournament kicks off at noon at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd., with several categories, but Rodriguez said all skill levels are welcome.
The entry fee is $90 for advanced teams and $75 for intermediate,
with a maximum of 42 teams in each division. The winning team in the advanced category will win $4,500, and the winning intermediate team will take home $3,500.
The Rotary Club will be selling refreshments at the event and through sponsorship, registration and on-scene food sales, hopes to have an impact on the community.
“We are working with the city for the Pump Track, and we really hope this event gives us a great start on raising the funds for the initial drawings and renderings to bring this project to life,” Rodriguez said. A story about the Pump Track can be found here.
Rodriguez wanted to give a shoutout to all of the sponsors. “We really couldn’t do it without them,” he said.
