Mayor Al Arreola and members of the Del Rio City Council on Tuesday honored the work of
Eagle Scout Elizabeth Rogers.
Rogers is an assistant scoutmaster for an all-girls scout troop in Del Rio and was recognized for
her love and care for the city. Elizabeth is the second female scout in Del Rio to receive an Eagle Scout award. She said she felt “great and accomplished” to receive her ranking.
She also works as a crew member at McDonald’s.
She attended Tuesday’s council meeting to be honored
for her leadership in beautifying the G.I. Forum Park, 201 E. Garza St.
Rogers led a group of volunteers to paint the obstacle courses at the park on Aug. 31, 2024. Rogers began the project as part of her work toward her Eagle Scout.
Community Services Director Esme Meza spoke at the meeting about Rogers’ dedication and
work ethic.
“(Rogers) is an incredibly neat young lady. She goes to a lot of our city events, and you’ll see
her a lot in the community. She goes above and beyond for our community,” Meza said.
Several pictures were shown to the council depicting Rogers and other volunteers working at
the park. Meza said Rogers’ actions assisted Del Rio with its Keep Texas Beautiful campaign

goals.
Arreola presented a certificate of appreciation to Rogers, and the two of them posed for photos.
Rogers thanked the council for the recognition and talked about her experiences as a scout,
adding she had learned leadership skills since being a part of the Del Rio Troop 280.
Rogers spoke with The 830 Times after the meeting and talked more about her experiences.
Rogers said she first joined the all-girls troop in November 2024, and has been involved in
scouting since the beginning of 2020.
Rogers’ passion and dedication has become a family legacy. Rogers’ mother, Jennifer Rogers,
said Elizabeth’s father and grandfather were also scouts, and her brother and step-brother are
currently scouts as well. Jennifer also said Elizabeth’s grandmother was an inspiration for her
granddaughter to join the scouts.
Elizabeth said being part of the scouts has helped her build relationships and be “more of a
good friend” with her fellow scouts.
