On April 20th, 2025, at approximately 8:55a.m. a Del Rio Police Department officer observed a silver in color, Nissan Rouge ran a stop sign at the intersection of West Garza Street and Broadbent Avenue.
The officer activated the emergency equipment of his patrol unit and initiated a traffic stop for the traffic violation. The driver disregarded the police and failed to stop, accelerating the speed of the vehicle. The vehicle turned southbound on Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd. and westbound on W. Morin Street. The vehicle then proceeded onto West Garza Street as it headed westbound at a high rate of speed exceeding speeds of 80 mph.
The driver disregarded stop signs passed several vehicles on the roadway and drove on the wrong lane of traffic.
As the vehicle approached the intersection of W. Garza Street and Cantu Street, the driver attempted to make a left turn but collided against a utility pole. The driver exited the vehicle and evaded police on foot.
Police chased the male driver as he jumped a fence and attempted to enter a residence located on Cuellar Street.
The officer successfully detained the male and escorted him back to his patrol unit.
The driver was identified as Amos Alexander Calderon; 21 yrs. of age. Calderon was arrested for Reckless Driving and Evading Arrest Detention with a vehicle. Calderon was transported to the police station where he was processed. He was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
