Del Rio’s Isaac Diaz is returning to the State golf tournament.

The Del Rio High School junior finished ninth overall at last week’s Region IV-6A Boys Golf Tournament to qualify for his second consecutive State tournament. He was the only Del Rio golfer to qualify.

Playing at the Silverhorn Golf Course in San Antonio, Diaz opened up the two-day tournament with a 6-over 78. Day two was a different story for the two-time Del Rio High Boys Golfer of the Year as he fired a 3-under 69 to move into the top 10 and position himself for a return to State.

He was one of three individual qualifiers to advance to State, which will be played at the White Wing Golf Course in Georgetown.

Diaz finished last year’s State tournament tied for 19th overall. This year, Diaz won multiple tournaments in the fall, won the individual title at the annual Del Rio High School Brown Automotive Boys Golf Tournament and won his third consecutive District 30-6A title to help Del Rio qualify for the regional tournament.

As a team, Del Rio finished 11th out of 16 teams. Austin Lake Travis won the team championship with a 580, edging runner-up Austin Westlake by one stroke. Schertz-Clemens finished third overall with a 590. Players from each of those teams will play at State.

Sterling Hurd from Westlake and Aadi Parmer from Clemens finished tied for first among all individual golfers with a 138, but Hurd claimed the individual title in a playoff. Shiv Parmar of Clemens finished in third with a 141.

Diaz was joined on the Del Rio squad by Ethan Jurado, who finished 13th overall with a 150 (71, 79); Juan Pablo Cortez, who shot a 176 (85, 91) to finish 66th; Maximilian Ramon, who shot a 187 (100, 87) to finish 79th; and John Montalvo, who finished 93rd after shooting a 210 (107, 103).
