If you’re looking at traveling much outside of Del Rio, please check road conditions as it’s a “red hot mess” throughout the region and getting worse.

Quemado and Normandy had a ‘voluntary’ evacuation until about 4 p.m., when Maverick County officials turned it into a mandatory evacuation.

On other storm fronts, numerous roads throughout the region are closed.

People are encouraged to check https://drivetexas.org/ for the most current road conditions before traveling.

There’s one closure presently in Val Verde County. State Highway 277 was closed where it intersects with Loop 79 was closed throughout much of the road.

roads US 277 and Farm-to-Market road 1908, FM 1590, FM 1591 as well as SH 331 closed.

If you’re in the Concan area, River Road is closed as the Frio River rises. That region has received 8-and-a-half inches of rain over a 12-hour period.

While there have been several closures in Uvalde, U.S. Hwy. 90 going from Del Rio to San Antonio remains open.

There are numerous closures north of U.S. 90.

Ranch-to-Market Road 189 in far northern Val Verde County remains closed “due to high water levels at low water crossings,” according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

TxDOT announced the road closure in a post from its Laredo District on X, formerly Twitter, at 11:30 p.m. today. In a follow-up post at 4 p.m. today, TxDOT reported the road remained closed.

RM 189 is located in north-central Val Verde County, running from Texas Highway 163 to the Sutton County line.

TxDOT’s post on X noted that its crews “are assessing the road’s condition.”

Other area roads closed because of heavy rainfall Sunday and earlier today include FM 1572, RM 334, FM 1908, SH 131 from intersection of FM 1908 to county line in Kinney County and U.S. 277, FM 1908, FM 1590 and FM 1591 in Maverick County.

The Laredo Road Condition Alert posted on TxDOT’s Laredo District’s Facebook page reads, “The above-mentioned state transportation system roads are closed due to water over low water crossings. No detours are available. Expect travel delays.”

“We encourage everyone to minimize their travel within the region,” said one state law enforcement official not authorized to speak on the record. “Things are changing about every five minutes and not for the better.”
