The city’s “Nature Ninja Birding Presentation & Guided Bird Tour” begins at 7 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 17, with a guided bird tour of several areas along the San Felipe Creek in
south Del Rio.

The event is free and open to the public.

Participants are asked to meet at the Casa De La Cultura, 302 Cantu St., and
transportation will be provided to El Rincon Del Diablo/Magnolia Park, several blocks
away. The park lies along the banks of the San Felipe Creek and is known for a variety of
bird species like Green Jay, Ringed Kingfisher, Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Morelet’s
Seedeater, Vermilion Flycatcher, Couch’s Kingbird, Gray Hawk and a mix of desert and
riparian birds.

Members of the San Felipe Creek Coalition will lead the tour and discuss habitats and
conservation efforts.

The birding tour is scheduled to last until 9 a.m., and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., participants
are encouraged to return to the Casa to view artworks by Dorothy Thomas in an
exhibition titled “On The Wing.”

From 10 a.m. to noon, participants are invited to attend a talk by nationally known birder
Tiffany Kersten, who has appeared on the cover of Texas Monthly magazine and who
runs her own nature guiding company.

Kersten will “share her journey, insights and tips on birding and conservation.”
