Mesquite Creek Outfitters, 800 S. Main St., will host an early Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., kicking off Del Rio’s fall events.

Pepper Bernal, general manager at MCO, said her establishment has hosted Oktoberfest and fall events in the past (last year’s event was called October Fiesta). With more fall events coming soon, including the Whitehead Memorial Museum’s annual Oktoberfest on Sept. 27, Mesquite will bring the seasonal spirit early to the community.

Mesquite opened in 2018 and offers a variety of beverages, including beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks. The shop also has a selection of snacks, chips and candy. Bernal said Mesquite “is one of the best local hangout spots in town.”

On Saturday, Mesquite will serve Oktoberfest beers from Saint Arnold, Live Oak and Warsteiner.

Mesquite staff will cook and sell bratwurst for $9 on the patio starting at 6 p.m. Sleeping Lady Bakery and Hibachi Food Truck will also be at Mesquite. Bernal said food trucks are welcome to reach out to Mesquite if they want to reserve a spot.

Bernal said if there are enough participants, staff will hold a stein-hoisting competition in which participants hold a 22-ounce beer mug as long as possible. She said people have gotten competitive in past competitions, and Mesquite may award a free drink to the winner.

Aside from the festivities, Bernal highlighted other offerings at Mesquite. She said they have a food menu with items such as sandwiches and quesadillas, and that gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and pancakes are customer favorites.

“We’re always trying to add things to keep people excited,” Bernal said. “We’re working on a small lunch menu that offers half a sandwich and salad options from Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 3 p.m.; it’s just something quick and easy to get people through the day.”

Aside from the food and beverages, Mesquite also has a boutique area with a selection of clothing. Bernal said they are the only store in Del Rio carrying the Pancho Outfitters brand for men.

Hours: 1 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 1 to 11:30 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
