The Border Organization (TBO) will host a discussion with San Felipe Del Rio CISD Superintendent Carlos Rios about a $50 million school bond proposal on Wednesday evening.
The event is at the Val Verde County Library, 300 Spring St., on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. Rios will outline how the district would use the bond proceeds and answer questions from attendees.
TBO is a coalition of Del Rio community members from various organizations working together to address issues that may affect the county, schools, neighborhoods and workplaces, according to the group’s Facebook page.
In August, the district’s board of trustees approved the issuance
of bonds to fund projects at the Del Rio Freshman School, Buena Vista Elementary School, Bobby Barrera Elementary School and San Felipe Memorial Middle School campuses. The bond measure will be decided by voters Nov. 4, 2025, in a special election.
Event organizer Gage Brown said the meeting is free and open to the public. Questions will be limited to the bond proposal. Although the meeting will focus on the bond package, Brown emphasized its importance because it allows the community to engage in important topics and be part of the decision-making process.
“(This bond) is going to affect every taxpayer in Del Rio, so this concerns every taxpayer,” Brown said.
Leaders of TBO will ask Rios questions at the end of the meeting. Brown said some of the questions will go into more depth about the purpose of the bond money and why it will go toward specific projects.
