The grand opening and ribbon cutting for Cactus Weapons Systems Inc.’s clay shooting range is noon Friday, Sept. 26.
Cactus Weapons Systems Inc. (CWSI) has operated as a gun shop in Del Rio for 16 years and at 3056 S. U.S. 277 for five years. Owner Franklin Hargrove said the shop sells firearms and offers services including custom rifle building, ceramic coating, laser engraving and electronic fingerprinting.
Hargrove said the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce is organizing a ribbon cutting from noon to 1 p.m. to celebrate the business.
He said the shooting range includes practice distances of 25, 50 and 100 yards. CWSI will also unveil new clay and UV-reactive clay shooting stations where people can practice hitting flying clay discs. The fluorescent targets are designed for low-light use. The grand opening for the clay-disc ranges will be at 5 p.m.
During the Friday event, CWSI will offer free day passes from noon to 6 p.m., and the first five customers at the ribbon cutting will receive a three-month membership.
Looking ahead, Hargrove said he wants to host shooting competitions and plan more events at the shop, including car shows and live performances. He added that staff members are friendly and committed to helping customers handle firearms responsibly.
“We are always willing to help people who don’t know that much about firearms. All we want to do is help people get comfortable with guns,” Hargrove said.
CWSI is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on Mondays and Sundays.
