After a devastating fire wiped out a Brackettville man’s home, business, recreational vehicle and killed his pets, his family is asking for help via a GoFundMe campaign.
“My cousin, Michael Dawson, lost his home, his cat, 2 Boa Constrictors, his vehicle, his dog grooming salon, all of his grooming equipment, all of his personal items and 2 dogs belonging to one of his clients,” wrote his cousin Tina Surber on the site.
Surber said that when she heard what had happened to him, she was crushed.
“He’s my cousin, I felt total devastation, he’d lost everything,” she said. “When you’re that age, you have adult children who step up and help you. He doesn’t have that.”
Dawson is in his 60’s, now living with his mother, has no children and now he has very few possessions.
“Everything he owned was right there,” she said.
“All I could do was sit there and yell at the fire department to put it out,” Dawson said, as he walked the aisles of Wal-Mart.
Although going through the experience is soul crushing, there has been one positive to come out of it for Dawson when discussing the GoFundMe campaign.
“I didn’t know there were so many people who cared about me,”

A catastrophic fire has hit close to home. My cousin, Michael Dawson, lost his home, his cat, 2 Boa Constrictors, his vehicle, his dog grooming salon, all of his grooming equipment, all of his personal items and 2 dogs belonging to one of his clients. He has second degree burns on his arms and is undergoing wound care and pain treatments in Del Rio. He is starting over with nothing as everything he owned including a cash savings burned to the ground. Any donation will help as you can imagine. He escaped with the clothes he was wearing and one shoe. If you would like to donate items other than money, he wears a large shirt and 33×34 pants/jeans, 8.5-9 shoes. He is looking for a good, used little pick-up truck and a used rv that doesn’t cost too much and some household items. Eventually he will need to rebuild his grooming salon and will need, clippers, scissors, combs, brushes, and kennels. Any material donations can be made at 267 Pompey, (Fort Clark Springs) Brackettville, TX 78832. Thank you in advance and if you are a prayerful person please pray for healing, both physical and mental for Michael and for the clients that lost their beloved pets.
