Two more persons have filed for places on the ballot of the March 2026 Republican and
Democratic Party Primary Elections.
Val Verde County Democratic Party Chair Rosalinda Hernandez on Thursday released
the latest application from a candidate seeking a local office in 2026.
Juan Roberto Martinez filed an application for a place on the Democratic Party Primary
Election ballot for March 3, 2026. Martinez is seeking the Democratic Party nomination
for the office of Justice of the Peace Pct. 3.
Martinez listed his occupation on his application as “sales manager.” Martinez told The
830 Times today he is a sales manager for Del Rio’s Harbor Freight store.
Val Verde County Republican Party Chair Sharon Petitt on Saturday released the latest
application she received from a candidate seeking local office next year.
Daniel “Danny” Musquiz filed an application for a place on the Republican Party
Primary Election ballot for March 3, 2026. Musquiz is seeking the Republican Party
nomination for the office of Justice of the Peace Pct. 2.
Musquiz listed his occupation on his application as “teacher/mortician.” Musquiz told
The 830 Times today he is a GED teacher at Southwest Texas College and is the co-
owner of Amistad Funeral Home. Musquiz said he has worked as a mortician for 30
years.
With slightly more than three weeks left to file for place on the Republican and
Democratic Party Primary Election ballots, there are a number of extremely competitive
races already shaping up, particularly for the office of Justice of the Peace Pct. 3.
Among the Democrats, two persons have now filed for Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 –
Martinez, who filed Thursday, and Loida S. Arellano, who filed on Nov. 8.
Arellano and Martinez will face each other in the Democratic Party Primary Election to
vie for the Democratic Party nomination. The Democratic Party nominee will then face
the Republican Party nominee.
On the Republican Party side of the house, two persons have also filed for the Justice of
the Peace Pct. 3 seat – Ashly Vicuna and Maria “Mari” Acosta both filed on Nov. 9. The
two women will face off in the March 3, 2026 Republican Party Primary Election to
become to Republican Party nominee for the seat.
Filing for positions on the ballot ends at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8.
