NEWS — List of candidates who have filed to run, including two new ones

Two more persons have filed for places on the ballots of the March 2026 Democratic and
Republican Party Primary Elections.

Val Verde County Democratic Party Chair Rosalinda Hernandez has released the
applications of two more prospective candidates who will seek county elected offices
next year.

Hernandez on Nov. 17 sent The 830 Times the application filed by Abril Hernandez, who
announced she will seek election to the office of Val Verde County Democratic Party
Chair. Abril Hernandez (no relation to Rosalinda Hernandez, the current party chair)
listed her occupation as inspector.
Rosalinda Hernandez on Nov. 24 released the application filed by Justice of the Peace
Pct. 4 Hilda Castillo Lopez. Lopez indicated she will seek election to the office she
currently holds.
With slightly more than a week left to file, a total of eight persons have filed for places
on the Democratic Party Primary Election ballot, and a total of 10 persons have filed for
places on the Republican Party Primary Election ballot.
The following persons have filed for the indicated offices on the Democratic Party
Primary Election ballot, with an (I) behind the office title to indicate an incumbent
seeking re-election:
• Jesse James Trevino – Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 (I)
• Robert “Bobby” Hernandez – Justice of the Peace Pct. 2
• Lewis G. Owens Jr. – County Judge (I)
• Loida S. Arellano – Justice of the Peace Pct. 3
• Rosalinda Hernandez – County Chair (I)
• Juan Roberto Martinez – Justice of the Peace Pct. 3
• Abril Hernandez – County Chair
• Hilda Castillo Lopez – Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 (I)
The following persons have filed for places on the Republican Party Primary Election
ballot:
• Adriana Acosta – County Clerk
• Teresa Esther Chapoy – County Clerk (I)
• Ashly Vicuna – Justice of the Peace Pct. 3
• Maria “Mari” Acosta – Justice of the Peace Pct. 3
• Christian Martinez – Justice of the Peace Pct. 1
• Robert Beau Nettleton – County Judge
• John I. Wardlaw – County Commissioner Pct. 4
• J. Randel Dissler – Justice of the Peace Pct. 2
• Mary Jane Ross – District Clerk
• Daniel “Danny” Musquiz – Justice of the Peace Pct. 2

The deadline to file applications for places on the primary election ballot is 6 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 8.
