Del Rio Police Department press release —
On 01/13/2026 at approximately 11:35 a.m., the Del Rio Police Department responded to NAPA Auto Parts, located at 3812 Veterans Boulevard, in reference to the theft of a generator valued at approximately $900.00. The caller reported the suspect had just left the business traveling southbound on Veterans Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers reviewed the business’s surveillance video and identified the suspect as a known male, Ivan Alejandro Gaytan, 32 years of age. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a green Ford Freestyle. Officers obtained the license plate information and began searching the area.
Several hours later, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers located Gaytan traveling southbound on Dr. Fermin Calderon Drive. When an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop for observed equipment violations, Gaytan refused to stop and continued to drive, ignoring the officer’s emergency lights and siren.
Gaytan continued traveling until he arrived at his residence in the 600 block of East Viesca Street, where he was ultimately stopped, detained, and arrested for the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. The stolen generator was not located at the scene; however, Gaytan was found to be in possession of a large amount of U.S. currency.
Gaytan was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and was later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process.
A separate case report will be filed for the offense of Theft of Property greater than $750 with prior convictions. This remains an open investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
