Candidate Questions: Lewis G Owens Jr./Democrat/County Judge

Question #1: What are your qualifications to serve in the office you are seeking?

Experience matters! I bring eight years as a commissioner and seven years as your County Judge. I led decisively through crises – COVID, immigration challenges and historic winter storms. With a business background, I manage the county as such: fiscally responsible, data-driven and focused on results. Today’s strong numbers reflect that work. I represent Val Verde County as a board member of the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments and Hill County MHDD. I believe in transparent, honest and accountable leadership.

Question #2: What is your vision for this office for the next four years?

Complete the projects already underway: event center at the Val Verde County Fairgrounds, Northside Fire Station, gun range, pump stations in Escondido Estates and San Felipe Pastures, rebuild Cienegas Road, extend the Vega Verde water line and install Comstock’s 62,000-gallon water tank – while continuing to promote real, visible progress. I’ll keep advocating to improve the highway corridors to and from Val Verde County. As County Administrator, we cut excess spending, secured grants and grew the county’s net worth from $14,000,000 in 2018 to $65,000,000 in 2024 – without raising taxes. We even lowered the tax rate by 2.6 cents. Moving forward, I support a new Judicial Center and will continue supporting Laughlin Air Force Base. Doing what’s right, for the right reason! Collaborating together, we continue the progress for Val Verde County.
