NEWS — Chapoy, Robles win primary races; Bosquez, Dissler, Vicuna get primary nods

Republican Party voters in Val Verde County selected a slate of nominees for county offices on Tuesday, including two incumbents seeking re-election.

Val Verde County Clerk Teresa Esther Chapoy, who is serving her first term, defeated challenger Adriana Acosta, a schoolteacher, for the Republican nomination for county clerk.

Chapoy received 1,310 votes in the primary, while Acosta received 1,222 votes. Chapoy will not face a challenger in the November general election, as no Democrat filed for nomination to the office.

Rey Robles, who lists his occupation as retired, won the party’s nomination for Val Verde County commissioner for Precinct 2, defeating investigator Antonio “Tony” Rodriguez. Robles received 222 votes to Rodriguez’s 194 votes.

Robles will face the Democratic nominee, Val Verde County Commissioner Precinct 2 Juan Carlos Vazquez, in the November general election.

There were also three races for the Republican nomination for justice of the peace offices.

In the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Mario Bosquez defeated Christian Martinez. Bosquez, a security officer at the federal courthouse, received 176 votes to Martinez’s 135 votes. Bosquez will face the incumbent, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Jesse James Trevino, a Democrat, in the November general election.

In the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, sitting Justice of the Peace J. Randel Dissler defeated Danny Musquiz, a teacher at Southwest Texas College and co-owner of a local business. Dissler, who was appointed to the office following the death of the elected justice, received 271 votes to Musquiz’s 163 votes. Dissler will face Democratic nominee Roberto “Bobby” Hernandez, a Del Rio police officer, in November.

In the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, Ashly Vicuna, chief deputy clerk for Justice of the Peace Pat Cole, defeated challenger Maria “Mari” Acosta. Vicuna received 987 votes, while Acosta, the Del Rio city secretary, received 417 votes.

Vicuna will face Democratic nominee Loida S. Arellano, a funeral director, in the November general election.
