Del Rioans will have a chance to start their spring-cleaning a little early with a free city-wide cleanup set for Saturday.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Val Verde County Fairgrounds off North Main Street.
“We all want a beautiful and clean community. It takes everyone’s effort and pride to make and keep it that way. The city-wide cleanup event supplements and supports those efforts. We are glad to partner with Red River and you to beautify Del Rio,” said City Manager Matt Wojnowski.
Items accepted for disposal at the cleanup include brush and tree limbs, household trash, building materials, white goods like stoves, washing machines, dryers, lawn mowers and bicycles and recyclable items like cardboard, paper, tin and aluminum cans.
Items that will not be accepted include tires, electronics, car batteries, paints, automotive liquids, air conditioning units and refrigerators, CPUs or any items with circuit boards in them.
Del Rioans who want to participate in the cleanup are asked to bring along proof of Del Rio residency such as an identification card, driver’s license or current water bill. City staff will be on hand to assist with unloading.
Those participating in the cleanup are also asked to wear a face mask and practice social distancing when they are outside of their vehicles.
City officials said contractors will not be permitted to dispose of waste at the event.
Wojnowski said the event is being held by the city in partnership with Red River Waste Solutions.
“Over the last 12 years, I feel honored and privileged to just be a small piece of all the efforts, dedication and hard work that take place in making the city-wide cleanup a success. It helps strengthen a great partnership with the city of Del Rio and helps unify our community as we all come together joining in the efforts to keep Del Rio beautiful,” said Red River Waste Solutions Regional Manager Robert Montes.
For additional questions about the event, Del Rioans are asked to call 830-775-2715.
