Police as of late today had not yet located a man they began searching for earlier in the day following a loud argument between the man and a woman he knows.

The manhunt, which ranged across south Del Rio and resulted in lockdowns at several schools and the closure of the county courthouse, began following an argument between a man and a woman at an unspecified location in south Del Rio.

Del Rio Police Department Chief Frank Ramirez told The 830 Times the disturbance between the man and the woman “got loud, so someone called it in.” Ramirez stressed the argument between the two “was only verbal” and did not involve any physical contact.

The chief said when officers arrived at the scene of the disturbance, the man had already left.

Officers then checked the man’s name in their system.

“They called it in and found that the man had some active warrants for his arrest, and there was a note in the file that said the man could be armed and dangerous, but he was apparently not armed at the time of this morning’s incident,” Ramirez said.

Once the man had been identified as someone possibly armed and dangerous, “everyone reacted, everyone came out,” the chief said.

City, county, state and federal law enforcement officers combed the San Felipe area south of the courthouse and along San Felipe Creek, Ramirez said, but were unable to locate the man.

Ramirez said no charges will be filed as a result of today’s incident, but praised the quick response and assistance from all of the area’s law enforcement agencies.

“Of course we’re glad nothing serious happened, but it really was a great test,” Ramirez said.
