NEWS — Burglary suspect arrested after confrontation with property owner

On June 7, 2026, at 6:52 p.m., officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 300 block of West Martinez Street for a reported burglary.

Upon arrival, officers encountered two men arguing. The individuals were separated and identified by police.

One of the men, identified as the property owner, told officers he had arrived at his vacant residence and noticed an open door. After inspecting the home, he discovered an unwanted man inside the residence. The property owner said the two became involved in a verbal altercation that continued outside the home.

Police inspected the residence and found damage to a door. Investigators determined a screen door and glass door had been damaged to gain entry into the home.

Officers also learned a kitchen knife had been removed from the residence and was later located outside the home.

Police arrested the suspect on a charge of burglary of a building.

During a search of the suspect, officers discovered a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

The suspect, identified as David Anthony Bejarano, 44, was charged with burglary of a building, criminal mischief causing damage greater than $750 but less than $2,500, and possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1/1-B of less than one gram.

Bejarano was transported to the police station for booking and was later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
