Del Rio native and Texas singer-songwriter Radney Foster continues to recover from a serious infection that recently hospitalized him, according to a statement released by his family Tuesday morning.

The family said Foster is recovering from sepsis and is making steady progress, though his recovery is taking longer than initially anticipated.

According to the statement, Foster is currently focused on respiratory therapy and rebuilding his strength. He is expected to begin physical therapy once his medical team determines he is ready.

Because of the demands of touring and travel, Foster’s doctors have advised him to remain off the road while he continues his recovery.

The announcement means upcoming appearances and performances will be postponed while Foster focuses on his health.

The family thanked fans for their patience, support and well wishes, adding that they look forward to sharing more positive updates and getting Foster back on stage as soon as he is able.

The family released the following statement:

“As many of you know, Radney was recently hospitalized with a serious infection. We can now share that he is recovering from sepsis, and while he is making steady progress, his recovery is taking longer than initially anticipated.

“He is currently focused on respiratory therapy and rebuilding his strength and will begin physical therapy as soon as his medical team determines he is ready. Because of the demands of touring and travel, his doctors have advised that he remain off the road while he continues his recovery.

“We know how disappointing this news is for everyone who has been looking forward to these events. This decision was not made lightly, but Radney’s health and recovery must come first.

“Thank you for your understanding, patience and the many messages of support. Radney and his family are deeply grateful. We look forward to sharing more positive updates and getting him back on stage as soon as he is able.”
