NEWS — Del Rio police officer arrested following grand jury indictment

The following information was provided by the Del Rio Police Department.

On Sept. 27, 2025, at approximately 2:37 a.m., off-duty Del Rio Police Department Officer Homer Perez was operating his personal 2020 Ducati motorcycle in the area of Spur 239 in Del Rio.

recklessly, causing a sudden change in motion. As a result, the passenger became unstable, was unable to maintain her seat and fell onto the roadway.

A passing motorist witnessed the incident, stopped to render aid and transported the injured female to Val Verde Regional Medical Center because of the severity of her injuries.

Perez arrived at the hospital a short time later and met with investigators, providing details regarding the incident.

Due to the extent of her injuries, the female was later transferred to a medical facility in San Antonio, where she underwent extensive medical treatment.

The Del Rio Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division, Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Ranger Division conducted a joint investigation into the incident.

On June 12, 2026, the criminal case was presented to the Val Verde County Grand Jury.

On June 25, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Perez on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Later that evening, Perez was arrested at the Del Rio Police Department while working in a modified-duty assignment. He was taken into custody without incident and was subsequently transported to the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process.
