What better way to celebrate America’s Independence Day than to take in a pro wrestling card!
Texas Wrestling Entertainment, a longtime visitor to Del Rio, will host its Red, White and Bruise event as part of a stacked schedule of events for the City of Del Rio’s Fourth of July activities.
The show will take place Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. inside the Joe Ramos Center, 1105 W. De La Rosa St. There is no charge for admission, but City of Del Rio Communications and Marketing Director Peter Ojeda cautions not outside food or drink will be allowed inside the center. Food and drink trucks will be available outside the center throughout the day.
The brainchild of City of Del Rio Parks and Recreation Superintendent Lazaro Castro, himself a pro wrestling fan who has hosted wrestling trivia nights at his business Culture Shock, the TWE event promises a multitude of matches including Jimmy Jack versus Za Za Zamora, JLP versus Mortem, newly crowned Texas Champion Kike Caballero making his first title defense against fan favorite Sabino Blaze, and appearances by Women of Wrestling superheroes Sylvia Sanchez and Kalaki who will compete as well as sign autographs and take photos with fans.
In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle for fans.
TWE has been hosting shows in Del Rio for more than a decade under the direction of promoter, and sometimes competitor, Rudy Gonzalez. Gonzalez, a veteran of the ring with more than four decades of experience under his belt, has always strived to bring a variety of new and experienced talent to the Queen City. Some of the well-known names Gonzalez has brought to Del Rio include former ECW and WWE star Super Crazy, former Lucha Underground star Ivelisse, former Lucha Underground and Ring of Honor star Ricky Reyes, former Lucha Underground and AAA star Macias aka Mil Muertes as well as many others who have gone onto find success in other promotions including Terrale Tempo, Alex Gracia and Moonshine Mantell.
The members of WOW, a direct descendent of the 80’s promotion GLOW, have been gaining notoriety since the show’s inception in 2000 and later revival in the 2010s. “The Island Girl” Kalaki was featured on the show’s most recent episode, which can be viewed on AXS TV as well as on YouTube, and Sanchez, who has appeared multiple times in Del Rio as Myka, are two members of the all-female promotion which also features veterans like Santana Garrett and claims current WWE star Candace LaRae as alumni.
