Attorneys have been appointed to defend three women charged with stabbing to death a 32-year-old Del Rio woman.

According to documents filed in state district court and obtained today by The 830 Times, the appointments were made by 63rd Judicial District Judge Roland Andrade on June 26.

Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19; Kitty Mia Diaz, 21; and Kyandra Renee Faz, 22, were charged with murder in the June 25 stabbing death of Caroline Raquel Pena, 32. An earlier version of the affidavit identifies the victim as “Carolina” Pena, but her name was changed in an updated affidavit filed with the court.

The Diazes and Faz were each charged with the offense of murder, a first-degree felony, and Faz was also charged with the offense of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

All three women were arrested June 25 at Faz’s home at 322 W. Strickland St., where Pena had been stabbed.

On June 26, the three women were magistrated by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Trevino, who set bonds totaling $15 million in the cases, or $5 million for each woman.

While appearing before Trevino, all three women requested court-appointed attorneys. When a defendant requests a court-appointed attorney, he or she must fill out a defendant’s financial affidavit, which asks questions about employment, net monthly income, monthly expenses and the amount of government assistance received.

The Diazes and Faz filled out the affidavits, with each of the women writing they are unemployed, and each claimed “zero” as the amount of their net monthly income.

Andrade appointed the Far West Texas Regional Public Defender to represent Amaya Diaz.

Andrade appointed Eagle Pass attorney Natasha Torres to represent Kitty Diaz, and he appointed Del Rio attorney Michael Bagley to represent Faz.
