U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry apprehended a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant alleging the aggravated sexual assault of a child.
According to CBP, officers on July 15 referred a vehicle driven by Juan Manuel Gomez, 58, a U.S. citizen, for a secondary inspection at the Del Rio International Bridge.
Biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed Gomez was wanted on a felony warrant issued by the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The Del Rio Police Department took Gomez into custody and transported him to the Val Verde Correctional Facility.
“This arrest highlights the critical role CBP plays in protecting the most vulnerable among us,” Del Rio Port Director Liliana Flores said in the release. “The apprehension of individuals wanted for heinous crimes, such as the sexual assault of a child, underscores our dedication to public safety and our collaborative efforts with law enforcement partners to protect our communities.”
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a centralized law enforcement database that allows agencies nationwide to share information, including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses.
According to CBP, information from the NCIC has helped officers apprehend individuals wanted for offenses including homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, child sexual abuse, fraud, larceny and military desertion.
CBP noted that criminal charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
