Runners from across the region will converge on Del Rio Saturday morning for the school’s lone local meet of the year.
The Del Rio High School Invitational Cross-Country Meet will begin at 8 a.m. at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
According to MileSplit, 314 entries have been submitted across 10 high school and middle school divisions.
The field includes Del Rio High School, Del Rio Middle School, Garfield Middle School, San Felipe Memorial Middle School, Brackettville Brackett, Comstock, Eagle Pass High School, Eagle Pass Junior High, Memorial Middle School of Eagle Pass and Eagle Pass Winn.
Varsity girls, small-school varsity girls and junior varsity girls will open the meet at 8 a.m.
The varsity boys, small-school varsity boys and junior varsity boys will follow at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Middle school girls are scheduled to run at 9 a.m., followed by the middle school boys at 9:30 a.m.
The course includes dirt trails, pavement and a small amount of grass before runners finish on the stadium track.
According to the submitted MileSplit seed times, Eagle Pass Winn’s Dante Jimenez leads the varsity boys field with a mark of 15 minutes, 59.41 seconds.
Del Rio’s Ray Torres and Alexavier Medina own the next two fastest seeds at 16:17.63 and 16:36.32, respectively.
Winn’s Romina Ramirez is the top-seeded varsity girl at 19:56.23, followed by teammate Sasha Monsivais at 21:06.60.
Del Rio’s Amya Mendoza leads a tightly grouped Queens contingent with a seed time of 21:55.80.
The largest races of the morning will be the eighth-grade boys division with 66 entries and the seventh-grade girls division with 53.
Medals will be awarded to the top 20 finishers in each division.
