Press release from the Del Rio Police Department
On Sept. 12, 2026, at 10:15 p.m., officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to 1901 Veterans Blvd. for a male subject who
attempted to purchase items with a fictitious $100 bill.
Upon arrival, police were notified the male had departed the area on foot. A clothing description and direction of travel were provided. Police searched the area and located the male a few blocks from the location.
Police made contact with the male, who handed officers the bill in question. The $100 bill included the wording “FOR MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES.”
The male refused to allow police to conduct a pat-down for weapons. He began reaching into his pockets and disobeyed police commands. Police attempted to handcuff the male, but he resisted detention.
The male was subdued and searched, revealing a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.
The subject, identified as Gustavo Barboza Jr., 47, was arrested and charged with forgery to obtain property or services valued at $100 or more but less than $750; resisting arrest, search or transport; and possession of between 1 and 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1/1-B controlled substance.
Barboza was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing. He was later released to the custody of the GEO correctional facility pending the magistration process.
