Cross-country runners from Del Rio and Comstock tested themselves against competitors from across Texas Friday at the HOKA McNeil Invitational in Round Rock.
The meet was held on the same course used for the UIL State Cross Country Championships.
Rams
The Del Rio Rams divided their runners between the Gold and Class 6A divisions.
Del Rio placed 33rd in the Gold boys division with 770 points and a combined time of 1 hour, 27 minutes, 33.6 seconds.
Ray Torres led the Rams, placing 114th overall with a time of 16 minutes, 48.3 seconds.
Alexavier Medina finished 151st in 17:07.0, Daniel Perez was 207th in 17:35.7, Jesus Robles placed 223rd in 17:47.1 and Isau Salazar finished 249th in 18:15.7.
Emiliano Zuniga completed the course in 19:11.8.
Del Rio’s second boys group placed 43rd in the Class 6A division with a combined time of 1:42:22.8.
Tyler Lopez led that group in 19:43.3. Luis Leija finished in 20:29.9, Reynaldo De Los Santos in 20:36.2, Landon Leyva in 20:41.2 and Izaiah Cedillo in 20:52.4.
Diego Martinez finished in 21:08.0, Tristan Sandoval in 21:14.6 and Arturo Resendiz-Ibarra in 21:58.1.
Queens
The Del Rio Queens placed 17th in the Class 6A girls division with 515 points and a combined time of 1:57:14.4.
Celeste Garcia led the Queens, finishing 42nd overall in 22:10.1.
Amya Mendoza placed 96th in 23:05.7, Hailey Dobbins finished 133rd in 23:35.7, Bella Montemayor was 162nd in 23:58.4 and Ava Jimenez placed 186th in 24:24.7.
Abigail Leonor finished in 24:35.0, Kaighley White in 24:58.0, Violet Hernandez in 24:59.3, Yulianna Martinez in 25:06.7 and Marianna Quintero in 25:12.8.
Comstock
Comstock competed in the Class 1A-3A divisions at the HOKA invitational.
The Panthers placed 25th in the boys division with 750 points.
Noah Bahena led Comstock, placing 39th overall with a time of 18:16.5.
Gustavo Flores finished 127th in 19:45.6, John Howell placed 156th in 20:12.1, Jacob Allen was 212th in 21:05.7 and Dalton Hutchinson finished 216th in 21:15.5.
Comstock placed 54th in the girls division with a combined time of 1:20:36.6 for its five scoring runners.
Fernanda Lopez led the Panthers, placing 225th overall in 15:22.9.
Sophia Flores finished 258th in 15:45.1, Alexis Guajardo was 262nd in 15:47.0, Charlotte Kennedy placed 267th in 15:51.4 and Lucero Tarango finished 344th in 17:50.4.
Anna Bahena finished 444th in 20:51.3, while Maya “Mya” Lopez was 445th in 21:04.4.
The HOKA meet came nine days after Comstock competed at the Junction cross-country meet Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Comstock’s varsity boys placed third among 16 teams at Junction, finishing behind state-ranked Class 2A Mason and Class 5A San Angelo Lake View.
Bahena led the Panthers with a fourth-place finish in 16:36.3.
In the junior varsity boys race, Anthony Carston won the individual championship in 19:11.4, while Steven Kaler placed sixth in 20:52.1.
Flores led Comstock’s girls with a third-place finish in 15:27.7, and Kennedy placed sixth in 16:00.5.
