NEWS — Early voting begins Monday in Val Verde County

From staff reports

Val Verde County voters can begin casting their ballots Monday, Oct. 19, as early voting gets underway for the Nov. 3 general election.

Early voting for all county precincts will be held at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Blvd., with voting available seven days a week during the first week and extended hours during the second week.

The early voting site at the civic center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 23.

Voting hours expand to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, followed by 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

During the final week of early voting, Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30, the civic center early voting site will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 23, is also the deadline for election officials to receive applications for ballots by mail. Applications must be received by that date, not merely postmarked.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, when polls across Texas will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

According to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, early voting statewide runs from Oct. 19 through Oct. 30. The deadline to register for the election was Oct. 5.

Voters should bring an acceptable form of photo identification, including a Texas driver’s license, Texas personal identification card, U.S. passport or another of the seven approved forms of photo identification.

Voters without an approved photo identification may have other options under state law. Election clerks can explain those options to individual voters.

Texas also allows eligible residents to vote by mail, including voters 65 or older, those with qualifying illnesses or disabilities and those who expect to be outside their county during both early voting and Election Day.

Mail ballots generally must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots postmarked by the applicable Election Day deadline may be received as late as 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, under state rules.

Voters can check their registration status and find additional election information through the Texas Secretary of State’s website at VoteTexas.gov.

The Val Verde County Voter Registration and Elections Office also maintains election information and notices on the county’s elections website.
