Del Rio well represented on first ever Fall tennis all-district teams

For the first time in school history, Del Rio’s tennis players were honored with all-district honors for their performance during the fall tennis season.

The move to create an all-district team was spearheaded by Del Rio tennis coach Nolan Pritchard, who said it was something his former school district did for its tennis players.

Del Rio had seven members of its girls team and four members of its boys team honored. In addition, five members of the tennis team were recognized as academic all-district selections.

GIRLS

Alejandra Solar earned dual honors for the Queens. She was the district’s newcomer of the year and was No. 1 Girls Singles First Team. Only a freshman, Solar went 5-1 in district competition in singles and was 1-0 in district in doubles. For the fall season, she was 9-2 overall in singles play.

Freshman Andrea Favela was No. 3 Girls Singles First Team and was named to the academic all-district team after carrying an average of 95 or higher during the fall semester. Favela was 5-0 in district as Del Rio’s No. 3 girls in singles and was 7-0 overall. She was also 4-1 in doubles district.

Junior Reagan Treviño was No. 5 Girls Singles First Team and also an academic all-district selection. She was 5-0 in district and 8-0 overall in singles.

Reagan also teamed with her sister Kennedy Treviño, also a junior, to take No. 2 Girls Doubles Second Team. They finished 4-2 in district doubles and were 8-3 overall. Kennedy was also an academic all-district selection.

The team of Liz Hernandez and Lexi Esquivel was No. 3 Girls Doubles Second Team honorees. Hernandez was also an academic all-district selection. Both girls are seniors and finished the fall season 4-2 in district in doubles and were 7-3 overall.

Sophomore Mariana Garcia was a No. 2 Girls Singles Honorable Mention selection. She was 4-2 in district and 9-2 overall. In doubles, she was 3-0 in district.

BOYS

Del Rio’s honorees from the boys team were all honorable mentions in their respective divisions.

Junior William Proffit was a No. 1 Boys Singles honorable mention and was an honorable mention in No. 1 Boys Doubles along with teammate Ricardo Mejia. Profit was also an academic all-district selection. Proffit went 4-2 in district in singles and was 8-3 on the season. In doubles, he was 4-2 in district.

Mejia was a No. 2 Boys Singles honorable mention. A junior, Mejia was 4-2 in singles play in district and 6-5 overall. He was 4-2 in doubles in district.

Sophomore Alberto Flores was a No. 3 Boys Singles honorable mention. He was 3-2 in district singles and 6-3 overall.

Junior Adrian Rivera was a No. 6 Boys Singles honorable mention. He was 3-1 in singles in district and 7-3 overall.
