Del Rio has repeated as the Brown Automotive Del Rio High School Girls Invitational Golf Tournament champions.
The Queens finished first ahead of Eagle Pass and Eagle Pass C.C. Winn in the smallest field in the tournament’s history. The short list of teams was due to the tournament being pushed back after its initial date was canceled due to the suspension of UIL activities by the San Felipe Del Rio CISD out of concern for the high COVID-19 positivity rate within the community.
As a team the Queens posted an 805. Eagle Pass finished with an 856 and Winn finished with a 921. All three teams played two rounds at the San Felipe Springs Golf Course.
Del Rio’s Mia Grace Paredes was the top golfer overall for the tournament as she shot a two-day 185. She opened the tournament with a 96, but bounced back to shoot an 89 on the second day.
Paredes’ teammate Mia Galindo was second with a 186. She shot a tournament-best 90 on the first day, but shot a 96 on the second day.
Lorena Torres was third with a 201 after rounds of 102 and 99.
Adali Hernandez was fourth on the team with a 233 as she shot 116 and 117. Rounding out the Queens was Joelda Alcaraz who shot a 238 after a 121 on Friday and a 117 on Saturday.
Del Rio also took the top three spots in the medalists category. Paredes was the top golfer overall followed by Galindo and then Torres. Eagle Pass’ Maria Gutierrez finished fourth with a 202 (101, 101) and her teammate Valeria de la Cabada was fifth with a 206 (107, 99).
