A woman found shot to death in the San Felipe Cemetery earlier today has been identified, and sheriff’s office investigators are looking for a 23-year-old Del Rio man as a person of interest in the case.
The murdered woman was identified as Sandra De La Cruz, 27, a resident of Del Rio, Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez said Sunday night.
Martinez said sheriff’s office investigators are looking for another Del Rio resident, whom he identified as Ernesto Olguin, 23, as a person of interest.
De La Cruz’s body was discovered Sunday morning lying facedown on a road at the southwestern edge of the San Felipe Cemetery off Brodbent Avenue.
Martinez said a man tending the graves of his parents and brother found the body and called the sheriff’s office.
Martinez told the 830 Times Sunday night the woman likely died of a gunshot wound and said investigators at the cemetery had recovered a bullet at the scene.
The sheriff also said De La Cruz’s body was taken to the Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office in Laredo for an autopsy. He said he had initially believed the body would be taken to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office in San Antonio, but noted later that office is not currently accepting cases from outside Bexar County.
