BUSINESS/NEWS — National chain opening in Del Rio

A recent trend is reversing as a national chain is opening in Del Rio versus closing.

Harrisburg, PA based Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, a national chain of closeout stores is entering the Del Rio market this summer, making it the company’s 16th Texas location. 

Tentatively scheduled to open for business by late August, it will open at the former Sutherland’s building at 2401 Veterans Blvd, and is projected to employ more than 50 people. 

Ollie’s is ranked in the Top 10 on several charts of the largest retailers of excess and closeout merchandise nationally, offering name-brand and general merchandise products discounted up to 70 percent. 

A typical Ollie’s store carries a variety of toys, electronics, sporting goods, housewares, food, automotive, clothing and health and beauty supplies. 

The chain has been In business since 1982, Ollie’s currently operates 394 stores in 25 states, and opens about 40 to 50 stores a year. 

The company recently opened a distribution center in Lancaster, Texas making expansion across Texas possible.
