The first half of district play in baseball is complete, and the Rams have some ground to make up.

Del Rio ends the first round of play in District 30-6A with a 2-4 record after falling to Eagle Pass High, 7-2, Thursday night at The Bank & Trust Ram Field. It was the Rams’ second straight loss after a 12-6 loss at Laredo United South Tuesday night.

Del Rio’s defensive miscues played a big part in helping Eagle Pass pick up the win. The Rams committed five errors in the game, three of which helped contribute to three of the Eagles’ runs.

Del Rio also didn’t do itself any favors in the batters box. The Rams managed just three hits and none after the third inning.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a pair of Rams errors, but the Rams answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.

With one out, Will Cooper laced a single to left field. Josh Adams followed with a single to right field. Carlos Arredondo was next up and hit a slow roller to the right side of the infield. Confusion set in and Eagle Pass wound up throwing the ball away, allowing Cooper to score and sending courtesy runner Mario Soto to third. Soto would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The Rams managed just one more hit after that, a single by Jose Borrego in the third inning. After that, Eagle Pass starting pitcher Sergio Lopez retired the final 13 batters he faced in order, including seven of those outs by strikeout. He finished the game with 11 K’s in all.

Eagle Pass reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs off three hits. They’d tack on one more run in the sixth inning before closing out the scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.

Del Rio won’t return to action again until Friday, April 9, when the Rams host San Antonio Brennan at 6 p.m. The Rams’ next district game will be Saturday, April 10, at noon against Laredo LBJ at the Bank & Trust Ram Field.
