Despite combining for nearly 20 hits, Friday night’s baseball game between San Antonio Brennan and Del Rio came down to who could make the most of its opportunities.

The Rams scored first, but Brennan took the lead for good in the second inning as they held on for a 3-1 win.

Del Rio put the first run of the game on the board in the first inning. Alex Rodriguez started things off with a single to right field. After a fly out, Jose Borrego singled to centerfield. Sebastian Patiño then followed with a double that brought Rodriguez in but resulted in Borrego being thrown out at third.

Brennan took the lead in the second inning thanks to a two-out, two-run single. Brennan had three hits in the inning, but none of them were for extra bases.

The final run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning as a double by Xavior Salazar led to an RBI single by Adrian Olivares and a 3-1 lead for Brennan.

Del Rio’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs Borrego singled to left. Patiño then smashed a double to centerfield that left runners at second and third base. The Rams couldn’t turn the opportunity into runs as Will Cooper flied out into foul territory to end the inning.

The Rams put one more rally together in the seventh inning.

Ryan Madera started things with a bunt single. Joanthony Guerrero then followed with a single. A sacrifice bunt off the bat of Mario Soto moved Madera to third and pinch runner Jacob Cowan to second with just one out.

However the rally wouldn’t produce the results the Rams were looking for as Ricky Limon struck out and Rodriguez flied out to end the game.

The Rams return to action today for a noon game at The Bank & Trust Park against Laredo LBJ.
