The golf season has ended at Del Rio High School.
Del Rio’s Queens golf team did not advance to the state tournament after missing out on a chance to claim one of the top two spots at the Class 6A, Region IV Girls Golf Tournament in McAllen. The Queens finished outside the top 10 in their final tournament of the year.
The good news for the team, and head coach Oscar Cardenas, is that all four members of the district runners-up should return next year and bring that valuable experience to what should be the first full season of golf in two years.
As a team, Del Rio shot 785 over the two-day tournament. The girls shot a 391 on day one and 394 on day two.
San Antonio Reagan and Austin Westlake each shot 593 to advance to state. District rivals Laredo Alexander, which won the 30-6A title, shot a 757 to finish ninth overall.
Leanna Galindo led the Queens with a two-day 185 (93, 92). She was followed by Mia Grace Paredes (190 – 92, 98), Lorena Torres (199 – 98, 101) and Joelda Alcaraz (211 – 108, 103). Galindo, Paredes and Torres will be seniors next year while Alcaraz will be a junior.
