An era in Del Rio athletics will soon be coming to an end.
The San Felipe Del Rio CISD posted its job requirements for athletic director, which is currently held by Ric Smith. Smith, who has served in the position since 2014, said his official retirement date would not be until 2022, but he expected to be out of the position in June.
The job posting was made April 20 and will remain open until it is filled.
According to the posting, the school district is seeking someone with a master’s degree from an accredited college or university and a valid Texas teaching certificate with physical education endorsement.
The posting also seeks a person with five years of successful teaching and head coaching experience. There are also a list of special knowledge and skills that would also be recommended or required.
Smith was a longtime coach within the school district before being hired as the new athletic director, replacing the retiring Dan Hurley.
A full-length interview with Smith will be published in the coming weeks.
